The appeal and evaluation of "Magical Circle Guru Guru the Movie"

"Magical Circle Guru Guru: The Movie" is an anime film based on the popular manga "Magical Circle Guru Guru" by Eto Hiroyuki, and was released on April 20, 1996. This work is an original anime story created after the end of the TV series, and has no direct connection to the original work, but it is a work that fans can enjoy new adventures and the charm of the characters.

The story is set on an adventure to find the "Pickles of Happiness" possessed by the divine beast Megalodragon, who resides at the top of a towering mountain. These pickles are said to have the power to grant any wish, and the protagonists Nike and Kukuri, along with the shrine maiden Juju, set out on a journey in search of this power. Along the way, they battle monsters and overcome obstacles, and the story follows the journey until they finally come face to face with Megalodragon.

The appeal of this movie lies above all in the personalities and growth of its characters. Nike is a 13-year-old boy who sets out on a journey to defeat the Demon King Giri, but he is not fully aware of his status as a hero, and he is also known for his luck. Meanwhile, Kukuri is a 12-year-old girl, a survivor of the Migmig tribe who can use the legendary dark magic Guru Guru. Her love for Nike gives her power, and her support of Nike with her powerful Guru Guru moves viewers. In addition, unique characters such as Kitakita Oyaji, Toma Parrot, and Juju add excitement to the story and add color to the adventure.

The cast is also impressive, with the voice actors Fujiko Takimoto as Nike, Konami Yoshida as Kukuri, and Yuri Amano as Juju bringing out the charm of the characters. In particular, Kenichi Ogata's humorous performance as Kitakita Oyaji provides the film's humorous moments. Daisuke Gori's powerful voice as Megalodragon is also impressive.

There are also some points not to be overlooked about the staff. Director Nakanishi Nobuaki has used his experience working on the TV series to provide high-quality visuals for the movie. Professionals from various fields, such as character designer Kase Masahiro, art director Chiba Midori, and music composer Nakamura Nobuyuki, have come together to enrich the worldview of the work.

The theme songs also add to the appeal of the work. The opening theme, "Kin no Tobira," is a powerful song written, composed, and arranged by Hiroyuki Eto himself, and sung by SATOMI KIHARA WITH RADIO HEART. The ending theme, by HIM and YASUTAKA MIZUSHIMA, also leaves an impression with its beautiful melody, leaving you with a lingering feeling of the story.

"Magical Circle Guru Guru: The Movie" depicts a new adventure that differs from the TV series, but for fans of the original work, it is a work that feels both nostalgic and fresh at the same time. In a short 37 minutes, it condenses the growth of the characters, friendship, and the thrill of the adventure, making it a worthwhile watch.

The film was distributed by Shochiku Fuji and released under the Eirin number 26233. It was produced by Nippon Animation and Enix, and the copyright is owned by Hiroyuki Eto, Square Enix, and Nippon Animation.
