'Twister' star hints at 'Top Gun 3' to start production soon

New Twister star Glen Powell has hinted that the much-anticipated Top Gun 3 - the sequel to Top Gun: Maverick - is set to start production soon.

Powell revealed the news during an interview with Josh Horowitz, and the moment occurred during the last question of the video. When the actor and his co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones were asked if a Normal People sequel or Top Gun 2 sequel was closer to release, he bluntly said: "I mean, I've got a date." However, when pressed for further details, Powell smiled and refused to reveal more.

This may be the most official news so far that the sequel to "Top Gun: Maverick" is about to start filming.

According to a previous report by Puck News, Powell, who played "Hangman" in the 2022 film "Top Gun: Maverick", will appear again in the sequel. The same report also pointed out that Paramount Pictures is actively preparing for the production of the sequel and hopes that Tom Cruise and Miles Teller will be able to work together again.

Powell's statement seems to confirm that he will star in "Top Gun 3", no matter what the final direction of the sequel is. Although Paramount Pictures has kept a low profile on the sequel to this highly anticipated work, it is not surprising that the "Top Gun" series will soar on the screen again.

Top Gun: Maverick is currently ranked 12th on the global box office charts, and has grossed nearly $1.5 billion worldwide during its release. The film has not only achieved commercial success, but has also received widespread critical acclaim and was voted by IGN readers as the best film of Tom Cruise's career.
