"Resident Evil" will have a prequel movie and a new Netflix series to expand the "Resident Evil" universe

According to foreign media reports, Constantin Films is expanding the "Resident Evil" universe through two "Resident Evil" projects, one is a new movie and the other is a Netflix series. Each will provide a unique story and experience rooted in the dark, virus-ravaged "Resident Evil" world.

Resident Evil prequel movie: exploring the origins of the series

Following Constantin Films' 2021 Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City movie, the company is now developing a prequel film that will delve into the events of the game Resident Evil: Zero. The film, scheduled for release in 2025, promises to stay true to the game narrative, providing fans with a faithful adaptation while integrating into the wider Resident Evil universe.

Prequel movie key details:

Filming Locations and Timeline: Filming takes place in Canada and will continue until December of this year. Fans can expect to hear more about the cast by October.

Budget: $30 million

Character Spotlight: The story will focus on Billy Cohen, a criminal with a dark past, giving audiences a deeper understanding of his character.

Introducing Ada Wong: To create a seamless narrative bridge to the Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City film, the prequel film will introduce Ada Wong, adding complexity to her character’s journey within the Resident Evil universe.

Faithful Adaptation: Fans can expect a film that pays homage to the original Resident Evil Zero game, while also incorporating a lot of elements from other games in the series

Through these elements, the prequel film aims to satisfy long-time fans of the series and attract new audiences with its rich backstory and complex character development.

New Netflix Resident Evil Series: All-New Storyline

In addition to the film, Constantin Films is also developing a new Resident Evil series for Netflix. Unlike the 2022 series, which received mixed reviews for its departure from the games, this new six-episode series will chart a unique path and bring an all-new narrative to the screen.

Key news of the series:

Standalone Story: The series will not be connected to any of the previous Resident Evil adaptations. Instead, it will introduce an entirely new storyline set in a world ravaged by the T-virus.

Protagonist: The story will revolve around Sofia Marcus, the daughter of an important figure, who will travel through apocalyptic scenarios in search of a cure for the virus. Her journey will lead her to an abandoned Umbrella base in Europe, full of action, suspense and mystery.

Iconic Monsters: True to the franchise’s roots, the series will feature an array of powerful creatures from the games, including Zombies, Lickers, Spiders, The Hunter and the terrifying Chainsaw Man.

Viral Origins: Episode one will delve into the origins of the global infection, setting the stage for the series’ intense narrative.

Game Easter Eggs: While the series will not feature characters from the game, it will weave in some references and provide Easter eggs for the attentive fan.

Production schedule: The script has been approved and filming is scheduled to start in 2025

Series rumors:

• Recording will begin in South Africa in January 2025.

• There is a chase scene in which Sofia Marcus is chased by three zombie dogs.

• There is a scene where a hunter is hacking at the survivors in the camp, and Sofia will face the monster with a shotgun

• One episode will feature a thrilling battle between Sofia and a giant lion, which she will face with her bare hands.

• This time the spider is scarier.

• A sea octopus monster with multiple tentacles appears in the underwater scene

• Sofia will discover that her father was cloned and seek revenge.

• Sophia will also fall in love with Catherine, a refugee from Thailand

• More Easter eggs from the game will appear in the episodes, such as items like herbs and sprays

• To avenge her father, Sofia will travel to Europe to find antiviral drugs

• Evolved zombies use machine guns and rocket launchers

• A flamethrower is used in one scene

Expanding the Resident Evil Universe

Both projects demonstrate Constantin Films’ commitment to expanding the Resident Evil universe by honoring the original series while exploring new avenues for storytelling. The prequel film and Netflix series will offer distinct yet complementary experiences, catering to a variety of Resident Evil fan tastes.
