Netflix to produce Chinatown prequel series with Seven as screenwriter

Netflix will develop a prequel series to the Oscar-winning film "Chinatown". The script has been confirmed to be co-written by David Fincher ("Fight Club", "Seven Deadly Sins") and the original film's screenwriter Robert Towne, and will focus on the story of private detective Jack when he was young.

Chinatown was directed by the famous director Roman Polanski and starred Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway. It was released in 1974. The film was nominated for 11 Oscars, and Robert Towne won the Best Original Screenplay. In 1980, Towne also collaborated with Jack Nicholson on the sequel Return to Chinatown.

In addition to "Chinatown", Robert Towne's representative works include "Special Assault", which was nominated for an Oscar, "Mission Impossible", "Never Ending", "Son of Tarzan", etc. David Fincher has worked closely with Netflix in recent years and participated as a producer in projects such as "House of Cards", "Mindhunter", and "Love, Death & Robots".

It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time Netflix has filmed a spin-off series for a movie starring Jack Nicholson. Previously, Netflix also announced that it would develop a spin-off series "Ratched" of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", starring Sarah Paulson and produced by Ryan Murphy, telling the "blackened" history of nurse Ratched.
