On the 17th anniversary of the release of "5 Centimeters per Second", Makoto Shinkai reveals the unused poster proposal

"5 Centimeters per Second", a classic realistic animated film created by Makoto Shinkai, the director of "Suzuya's Journey", was first released in Japan on March 3, 2007, and won the Best Animated Film Award at the Asia Pacific Film Festival in the same year.

"5 Centimeters per Second" is an animated short story with a boy as the story axis and three consecutive and independent stories. The background is from the 1990s to modern Japan, showing the changes in Tokyo and other regions through the boy's life. It includes three chapters: "Sakura", "Astronaut" and "5 Centimeters per Second".

Recently, "5 Centimeters per Second" ushered in the 17th anniversary of its release. Its director Makoto Shinkai also revealed a previously unused poster proposal on his personal Twitter. It is a scene in the night where the male protagonist Takaki Tono follows the footsteps of the female protagonist Akari Shinohara and walks towards the cherry blossom trees in the distance. In addition, Makoto Shinkai also reminded in the caption: "This year's cherry blossom season is coming again."
