Jeanne du Barry premieres at Cannes Film Festival, Depp plays Louis XV

Today (April 6), the historical film "Jeanne du Barry" will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival which opens on May 16 and will be released in French theaters on the same day.

The film is directed by Maiwen and stars Johnny Depp as Louis XV's lover Madame du Barry, and will be his first role in more than three years since he starred in the 2020 film "Minamata".

The plot of Jeanne du Barry centers on the relationship between Louis XV and his official mistress, who "returned to his passion for life." The womanizing Bourbon king, nicknamed "The Favourite," ascended the throne at the age of five and reigned for 59 years, making him one of the longest-reigning kings of France, though he was controversial and died in disgrace, accused of corruption and indulgence in alcohol and sex.
