Ubisoft's The Division movie put on hold after director leaves

It’s been six and a half years since Variety first reported on The Division movie, with Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain starring in it. In early 2017, Ubisoft said that the live-action adaptation of The Division would be written and directed by Stephen Gaghan, but in 2018, Variety broke the news that David Lynch (Deadpool 2) would direct the film.

It is now the end of 2022, and there is still no sign of the live-action film "The Division". In an interview with Discussing Film, David Lynch's wife and partner Kelly McCormick talked about the film.

Kelly revealed: "When the pandemic hit, we left The Division because it felt like a documentary. It was about an outbreak happening in the real world, the danger and the anxiety that it created. It was like, 'Wow, this isn't fun anymore.' It's like, we're all having to go through this in real life. I think we can find love again.

It was a cool IP, and it was really amazing to imagine a team of agents in that kind of apocalyptic setting, but we actually ended up scrapping it because we were so disrupted by the pandemic. I heard it was put on hold for a while, but I'm not sure."

According to foreign media WCCF, after David Lynch left, Netflix found "Red Notice" director Rawson Marshall Thurber to direct, but Thurber is busy with multiple projects, including "Red Notice 2", "Dungeons & Dragons" TV series and "Voltron" live-action movie.
