"Hold Your Breath" director confirms new "Alien" movie starring main cast

Cailee Spaeny ( The Witch Game , East Side Nightmares ) is in talks with 20th Century Studios to play the title role in the new Alien film to be directed by Fede Alvarez.

The work that Alvarez is producing will be a horror film independent of "Alien" rather than a traditional sequel. The Hollywood Reporter said that the film was made for the Hulu streaming platform and will not be released in theaters. According to DEADLINE, the film will be released in early 2023.

Fede Alvarez previously directed the 2013 remake of The Evil Dead, which reframed it as a horror film and abandoned the comedy elements of Sam Raimi's 1981 original film. He also directed 2016's Don't Breathe, a very unique horror film that received good reviews.

Cailee Spaeny starred in the horror film The Witcher and also appeared in the critically acclaimed American crime drama East Side Nightmares. The actress is currently filming Sofia Coppola's Priscilla, a film based on Priscilla Presley's memoir Elvis and Me.

According to 20th Century President Steve Asbell in an interview with THR, the new Alien project is "completely Alvarez's strength": "It's a great story with a lot of characters you've never seen before."
