Dwayne Johnson hopes to make a Black Adam vs. Superman movie in the future

In a recent interview, Dwayne Johnson, who stars in the upcoming DC superhero film Black Adam, said that the "whole point" of bringing the character Black Adam to the big screen in his own standalone film was to one day make a movie to face off against Superman in the future. Speaking with CinemaBlend, Johnson said that this has been the goal for the character for a long time.

"I've been saying that a new era of the DC Universe is about to begin," Johnson said. "What I mean by that is the introduction of a brand new character. This is not a sequel, this is not an existing IP... Two years ago, the world didn't know who Black Adam was. Now we know, but the rest of the public doesn't know. What I really mean by, 'This is a new era of the DC Universe' is listening to the fans. Doing our best to give the fans what they want."

Johnson said that part of listening to fans is to have Superman and Black Adam collide head-on. Just last summer at Comic-Con, a fan asked who would win in a 1v1 between Black Adam and Superman. Johnson said in an interview with Variety that "it will depend on who plays Superman."

Black Adam will be released on October 21. The film will bring many members from the Justice Society of America to the DC movie universe, including Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) and Atom Smasher (Atom Smaker, Noah Centineo).
