'The Hobbit' casting director fired for only casting 'light' skinned actors

According to foreign media reports today (December 9), a casting director of The Hobbit was fired because he rejected a Pakistani female actor on the grounds that her skin was too dark to play the role of a Hobbit. In addition, the casting director also published a recruitment advertisement in a New Zealand newspaper specifically for "light-skinned" actors.

The casting director said during an audition: "We're looking for light-skinned people. I don't want to be... whatever. In short, you have to look like a hobbit." After the relevant personnel were fired, "The Hobbit" producer and director Peter Jackson quickly cut ties with the casting director, who has not yet been named.

Among them, a spokesperson for Jackson Productions said in response to the incident: "The incident was carried out by the crew member in question himself. It was not instructed or condoned by us. The company did not give any relevant instructions."
