Gan-chan, a boy who loves building machines, and his girlfriend Ai-chan complete a giant dog-shaped mecha called Yatterwan, and decide to use it to benefit the world and become Yatterman, a hero of justice. Meanwhile, a mysterious figure calling himself the god of thieves contacts the Doronbo Gang, a trio of villains. He tempts them to collect the Skull Stones, which contain information on the locations of large gold nuggets scattered around the world. Yatterman sets out with Yatterwan to thwart the Doronbo Gang's ambitions.
