story

"Spirit of Wonder" is a series of four episodes themed around dreams and adventure, each depicting a world where science and fantasy intersect.

Boys' Science Club (Part 1)

Inspired by the books they read as children, the boys of the past dream of going to Mars. Windy, a newly-wed wife, is outraged that her father Gordon and his group, who call themselves the "Boys' Science Club," are dragging her husband Jack into their childish and worthless plan. Windy has something important to tell Jack, who is a sailor and is often away from home. However, regardless of Windy's feelings, preparations for departure to Mars on the Aether Spaceship, a modified airship, are steadily progressing. This episode depicts Windy's feelings as she wavers between her dreams and reality.

China's shrink

China, a beautiful woman in a Chinese dress, runs a Chinese restaurant called "Tian Hui" in the port city of Bristol, England. China, who is also a master of kung fu, is troubled by the fact that her roommate, the self-proclaimed genius inventor Dr. Breckenridge, is spending all his money on dubious inventions and not paying his rent. One day, China kicks down the door to Breckenridge's room to demand the rent, but accidentally gets hit by a mysterious ray. In this episode, China's humorous daily life and Dr. Breckenridge's eccentric inventions intertwine, making for a ton of laughs and surprises.

Boys' Science Club (Part 2)

A heretical theory, "Ether Flow Theory," was proposed by a woman from the countryside, Windy Lindbergh. There was a group of (self-proclaimed) amateur physicists who believed in this absurd hypothesis, admired Percival Lowell, a leading researcher in Mars, since childhood, and dreamed of going to Mars... Their name was "Boys' Science Club." Windy was tormented by loneliness after her husband Jack was taken by the club. Meanwhile, Cooper, an eccentric old man who likes to invent things, Gordon, Windy's father, and Shepard, come up with a plan to secretly fly to Mars on the 50th anniversary of the club's founding. "Riding the Ether Wind... Let's go." The Ether Airship carrying the men's dreams finally soars into the stratosphere. This episode depicts the passion of the men chasing their dreams and Windy's complicated feelings.

China's Planet

The mysterious invention of the self-proclaimed genius inventor, Dr. Breckenridge, is the "Space Reflecting Telescope." It is a great invention (?!) that reflects the distant universe and creates the same space in a familiar place. The doctors invite China on a free Mars tour in lieu of her overdue rent. However, the Mars that the telescope creates shows a dried-up canal and a ruined city that doesn't exist. This episode depicts Dr. Breckenridge's eccentric invention and China's adventures, mixing fantasy and humor.
