Skull Angel 2 - Detailed Review and Recommendation

"Punch Angel Dokuro-chan 2" is an OVA series released in 2007, based on a light novel by Okayu Masaki. This work is a sequel to the first "Punch Angel Dokuro-chan", and is characterized by a story development with more depth and humor. Below, we will provide a detailed review and recommendation of this work.

Story and Characters

The story of "Punch-to-Slay Angel Dokuro-chan 2" is about an angel from the future, Dokuro-chan, who tries to kill Sakura-kun, but ends up living with him in a strange cohabitation. Continuing from the first season, Dokuro-chan's spell "Pipirupirupirupipipirupi~♪" plays an important role, and the comedy element of Sakura-kun being revived immediately after being beaten to death is emphasized.

Dokuro-chan is an attractive character with a cute appearance and a nice body, but her actions are very extreme, and there are many scenes in which she beats Sakura-kun to death with the spiked bat "Escalibolg". However, behind this, Dokuro-chan hides complex feelings towards Sakura-kun, and you can feel the depth of her character.

Although Sakura-kun is often at the mercy of Dokuro-chan's eccentricities, he also shows a side of himself that enjoys living with her. His "one-person diary exchange" is an important element in portraying Sakura-kun's inner world, and depicts his faint love for Mizukami Shizuki. Mizukami Shizuki is Sakura-kun's childhood friend, and is the one he secretly has feelings for, but she herself is unaware of this fact. This love triangle adds depth to the story.

Sabato-chan is a new angel sent by Lulutier, who is fed up with Skull-chan's failure to complete her mission. Her character is further highlighted by the bags under her eyes, which symbolize her unhappiness, and the fact that she lives in a cardboard house under a bridge. Zakuro-chan is Skull-chan's younger sister, and although she looks grown-up, she is actually 9 years old, which is unique. Her presence as the operator of the "Murderous Wet Towel Eckelsaxe" also adds new spice to the story.

Animation and performance

The animation for "Pokkuri Tenshi Dokuro-chan 2" is by Hal Film Maker, and continues the high quality of the animation from the first season. Director Tsutomu Mizushima skillfully balances comedy and serious scenes to keep viewers entertained. Character design is by Makoto Koga, and each character's personality is vividly depicted.

The beautiful backgrounds and colors by art director Yoshikawa Hiroshi and color designer Kawakami Yoshimi also enhance the appeal of the work. In particular, the scenes in which Skull-chan is beaten to death and resurrected have a very strong visual impact and will surely remain in the viewers' memories. In addition, the camerawork and editing by cinematographer Morimoto Yumiko and editor Tsubone Kentaro also keep the pace of the story going well.

Music and Sound

The music was written by Akizuki Kaoru, and many songs were recorded that matched the atmosphere of the work. In particular, the opening theme "Punch-to-kill Angel Dokuro-chan 2007" and the ending theme "Punch-to-kill Dokuro-chan" are songs that symbolize the character of Dokuro-chan and resonate with the viewers. The team of Takagi Ryuji and Mizushima Tsutomu, who wrote the lyrics, composed the music, and arranged the music, is also superb, further deepening the worldview of the work.

The sound effects by sound director Miwa Iwanami are also an important element in increasing the impact of the comedy scenes. The scene where Dokuro-chan is beaten to death and the sound effect of the spell "Pipiru Piru Piru Piru Piru Pi~♪" are sure to make viewers laugh. The voice actors for each character are also excellent, with the performances of Saeko Chiba, Reiko Takagi, Ayako Kawasumi, Rie Kugimiya, and Akino Watanabe bringing out the charm of the characters.

Episode-by-episode details

"Slaughter Angel Dokuro-chan 2" consists of 4 episodes. Each episode depicts the daily life of Dokuro-chan and Sakura-kun, and includes various gags and serious developments.

The first episode, "It's a competition! Skull-chan!", begins with Skull-chan beating Sakura-kun to death and depicts her eccentric behavior. The second episode, "It's the big bubble-bubbling scrubbing mission! Skull-chan!", depicts Skull-chan's new endeavor and further deepens her relationship with Sakura-kun. The third episode, "The incident will happen behind closed doors! Skull-chan!", introduces Skull-chan's younger sister, Zakuro-chan, and adds a new twist to the story. The fourth episode, "It's a Valentine's Day kiss! Skull-chan!", focuses on the relationship between Sakura-kun and Mizukami Shizuki and depicts Skull-chan's complicated emotions.

Recommendations and ratings

"Skull-chan the Killing Angel 2" is a work with an excellent balance of humor and seriousness, and the story development is attractive for not getting bored of the viewer. In particular, the character of Skull-chan is very unique, and many viewers will empathize with her actions and emotions. In addition, the relationship between Sakura-kun and Mizukami Shizuki also adds depth to the story.

The animation and music are also of high quality, making this a work that can be enjoyed visually and aurally. In particular, the scene where Dokuro-chan is beaten to death and the spell "Pipirupirupirupipipirupi~♪" will remain in the viewers' memories. The voice actors' performances are also excellent, bringing out the charm of each character.

This work is recommended for those who like comedy anime and those who like unique characters. It is also a good sequel for those who have watched the first season of "Pokémon Angel Dokuro-chan". Overall, "Pokémon Angel Dokuro-chan 2" is a great work that will provide viewers with laughs and emotions, and I highly recommend it.
