story

The story of "Anohana" begins when a group of childhood friends who were once close start to walk their own paths after becoming high school students. The protagonist, Jintan (Yadoumi Jinta), is a mildly reclusive person who has become distant from his childhood friends. One day, his deceased childhood friend, Menma (Homma Meiko), suddenly appears and asks Jintan to grant her a wish. While searching for the answer to that wish, Jintan is reunited with his childhood friends.

Although each childhood friend changes, they work together to grant Menma's wish. The story depicts their reunion, growth, and the process of facing past trauma, deeply moving the viewer. In the end, it becomes clear what Menma's wish was, and how granting it will help them grow.
