"Fast and Furious 9" opened in the United States with over $70 million, setting a new record during the epidemic

"Fast & Furious 9" was recently released in North America, and its domestic box office exceeded 70 million US dollars in the first week, setting a new North American box office record during the epidemic.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Fast & Furious 9" became the movie with the highest first-week box office in the United States since 2019's "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker", which grossed $177 million in its first week.

As for pandemic records, Fast & Furious 9's first-weekend box office surpassed Godzilla vs. Kong ($48.5 million), A Quiet Place Part II ($47 million) and Mortal Kombat ($22.5 million).

So far, Fast & Furious 9 has grossed over $400 million worldwide. Although its domestic opening grossed more than the Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw ($60 million), it’s still some distance away from the $98.8 million domestic opening grossed by Fast & Furious 8 in 2017.

Just last week, the Fast & Furious franchise became the fifth-most profitable film franchise in the world, beating out the X-Men franchise with $6.2 billion worldwide.
