The Black Sheriff of "The Wire" Will Play Wesker in Netflix's "Resident Evil"

Netflix announced today that Lance Reddick will play Albert Wesker, the villain in the live-action version of Resident Evil. In addition, Netflix also announced five other actresses who will be starring in the series.

Lance Riddick played Cedric Daniels on "The Wire" and Detective Johnny Basil on "OZ." He also appeared in the fourth season of the hit TV series "Lost."

The live-action TV series of "Resident Evil" was announced in August 2020. At that time, not many details were disclosed. We only knew that the plot would revolve around "Son of Wesker" and tell the story of Albert Wesker and his children.

The Resident Evil TV series will tell a new story not seen in the games, set in two different timelines. In the first timeline, fourteen-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker move to the new Raccoon City. An artificially created business town. However, the longer they stay there, the more they realize that there is more to this town than meets the eye, and that their father may be hiding a dark secret, one that could destroy the world. In the second timeline, more than a decade in the future, there are less than fifteen million people left on Earth, and more than six billion monsters - both humans and animals infected with the T-virus. Thirty-year-old Jade struggles to survive in this new land, while secrets from her past - about her sister, her father, and herself - continue to haunt her.

The Resident Evil TV series will have a total of 8 episodes and will be produced by Andrew Dabb, the executive producer of Supernatural. The release date of the show has not yet been announced. In addition to Lance Riddick, the other five actresses announced are: Adlaine Rudolph, Sienna Agudun, Paula Nunes, Tamara Smart and Ella Balinska.

This isn't Netflix's first Resident Evil series. In July, the animated series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is set to be released, a CG series starring Leon Kennedy. In 2019, there were media reports that Netflix had tried to make another Resident Evil series, and similar reports appeared as early as 2014.
