IGN rating: 8 points, excellent

Alien: Revenge takes a back-to-basics horror blockbuster approach, encapsulating everything fans love about this tonally varied series into one brutal, nerve-wracking experience.

Alien: Revenge is a lean, fierce, bizarre masterpiece that evokes the film franchise’s doom-inducing genetic experiments. Director Fede Álvarez proves that his Evil Dead remake was no fluke: The director has captured the series’ narrative and aesthetic tone perfectly, and pushed it to breathtaking heights.

Alien: Taken occasionally hits a pacing dead end, and its boldest connection to the series’ past is woefully shaky, but these missteps are forgivable given Álvarez’s otherwise confident and measured approach.

With the help of a talented young cast and high-caliber production, Alien: Reaper's back-to-basics approach combines everything fans love about the franchise into a film that you'll want to start making time for during your next Alien and Alien 2 marathon.
