IGN 3 points

IGN Rating Summary:

Borderlands is a terrible rip-off of a beloved series, taking a bunch of weird, murderous, misfits and draining the fun out of their first adventure together.

Director Eli Roth is no James Gunn, and this movie lacks all of the lovably crazy characters, stunning sci-fi visuals, and otherworldly storytelling from Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.

The film only superficially replicates the hyper-stylized style of the Borderlands games, and all the gory dismemberment violence, raunchy humor, and uniquely deranged themes are replaced with mass-market repetitive blandness due to a PG-13 rating. This is the worst Borderlands movie ever made, goes against the entire spirit of the series, and is a dismal failure.

MTC's current average score is 29 points

Foreign media Collide gave it 5 points (out of 10): "It's disappointing that the original game has such multi-layered characters and complex themes about trauma and survival, but the film seems uninterested in these, or unable to explore them."

Men's Journal critic Billie Melissa called the film "a lifeless cash-grab that respects neither itself nor its audience. If No Man's Land doesn't stop studio executives from salivating over every IP that crosses their desk, nothing will."
