James Gunn Explains Why The Batman Won't Join The DC Universe

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn recently introduced a series of developments regarding the DC Universe, including information about "Batman II" and "Joker: Double Madness."

Among them, Gunn explained why Robert Pattinson's Batman, the 2022 version of "The Batman," will not join his DC Universe.

A fan asked: "Why is Matt Reeves' Batman not allowed to exist in the new DC universe?"

Gunn responded: "This is not a question of permission or not. This is Reeves' choice and we respect that choice."

Gunn also introduced it before when announcing the first phase of the DC Universe "Gods and Monsters", saying that Reeves' "New Batman" universe will be independent of this DC Universe and will be "his own thing."

Gunn explained at the time: "Matt is working on the second installment of The New Batman, which he sees as the Batman saga, and the plan also includes a TV series of The Penguin."

Gunn also revealed that "The Batman" is still a trilogy concept, with the second part scheduled to be released on October 3, 2025.

As for how the first part of the new DC Universe performs, we won’t know until 2025, when Superman: Legacy is released.
