Snyder: Justice League director's cut may be rated R

When Justice League was released in 2017, it performed very poorly and was bombarded with negative reviews. However, with the arrival of the director's cut, the film has a second chance to meet the audience.

Speaking with EW this week, Snyder elaborated on the work he was doing to reshoot and re-edit Justice League.

"This movie is so crazy and so big, it's probably going to be rated R," he said. "That's one thing I think is going to happen, it's definitely going to be an R-rated movie. We haven't heard from the MPAA yet, that's my gut feeling."

"There's a scene where Batman drops an F-bomb. Cyborg isn't too happy with what's going on in his life before he meets the Justice League and he tends to speak his mind," Snyder said. "And Steppenwolf pretty much cuts people in half." He also said the rating was due to the violence and profanity.

“I’m a huge fan and supporter of this movie,” Snyder said. “It’s going to be on HBO Max at the same time that Justice League is in theaters. What’s weird is that it’s going against the grain.”

The "trend" Snyder was referring to was a recent decision by WarnerMedia executives to release all Warner Bros. movies in 2021 on HBO Max in the same period to boost the young streaming platform. Since Snyder's film was considered a major factor in driving people to subscribe to HBO Max, it was a bit surprising to hear that the film might appear in theaters.
