Toei suffered a ransomware attack, and many TV and theatrical animations were postponed

Toei Animation, which has produced famous animation works such as "One Piece" and "Dragon Ball", was hacked last month. Toei recently revealed that the hacker attack was a ransomware attack.

On March 6, Toei's network was accessed by an unauthorized third party. This caused some of the company's systems to stop operating, and the screening schedules of many animations were affected. Animations such as "One Piece", "Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai", "Delicious party♡Pretty Cure" and "Digimon Ghost Game" were all affected and postponed.

The intrusion was a ransomware attack, and multiple company documents were locked by the virus and could not be accessed. A ransom was required to unlock them. Toei Animation shut down its internal systems to prevent the virus from spreading to the entire company. Toei did not disclose the details of the ransom, the virus, and the hacker.

Toei is still investigating the attack and is not sure whether the damaged files can be recovered. According to a company insider, "The impact of this incident on animation production continues, and we are working hard to get everything back on track."

While the company is still working to recoup its losses, the delay of Dragon Ball Super: Super Heroes is inevitable. The theatrical version, which was originally scheduled to be released in Japan on April 22, has now been postponed indefinitely.
