According to THR, American actor Chris Pratt, who plays Star-Lord in the Marvel series of movies, will voice Garfield in a new animated film. Andrew Kossoff and Broderick Johnson's Alcon Entertainment are behind the new Garfield animated film, which has been distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures (excluding mainland China). The script was written by Oscar-nominated Finding Nemo screenwriter David Reynolds and directed by Chicken Little director Mark Tyndall, who previously worked together on Disney's The Emperor's New Groove. Alcon acquired the rights from Davis, who will serve as executive producers on the film along with Bridget McMeel and Craig Sost from Amuse. John Cohen and Steven P. Wegner are producing alongside Kosove and Johnson. DNEG Animation, which recently worked on the animated feature The Inspiration, will animate the film. DNEG CEO Namit Malhotra and President Tom Jacomb are both serving as producers. Garfield was created by American cartoonist Jim Davis and first appeared in comic strip form in 1978. This lazy orange tabby cat often causes trouble for his human owner Jon Arbuckle and the lovable family dog Odie. Garfield debuted in 41 newspapers and currently holds the record for the most widely syndicated cartoon in the world. Garfield has previously appeared on the big screen in the 2004 live-action/animated hybrid Garfield and its sequel, 2006's Garfield: A Tale of Two Cats. Bill Murray voiced Garfield in these films, produced by 20th Century Fox. Pratt's voice work includes The Lego Movie and Pixar's Onward, as well as the upcoming Universal and Nintendo animated feature Super Mario Bros., in which he will voice Mario. Pratt will also recently appear in Amazon's sci-fi film The Tomorrow War, and next June's Jurassic World 3: Dominion. |
