Disaster film "Greenland" gave up theatrical release in the United States, and HBOMax won the streaming rights

The disaster film "Greenland", starring Gerard Butler, who falls wherever he goes, and directed by Ric Roman Wolf, the director of "Angel Has Fallen", was originally scheduled to be released on August 14 this year, but was later postponed to the end of the year due to the new crown epidemic. Now the film company has decided to abandon theatrical distribution in the United States and meet the audience directly through PVOD and streaming media.

According to an exclusive report by Deadline, HBO acquired the pay TV and streaming rights for $20 to $30 million, and it is expected to be launched in early 2021.

In the Gerard Butler universe, basically everything that can fall has already fallen. In his new sci-fi disaster film "Greenland", he will reunite with Ric Roman Wolf, the director of the "Angel Has Fallen" series. This time, it is the Earth that has fallen, and Gerard has to fight against a comet that can destroy the planet.

It is reported that the film cost 35 million US dollars and was released in many European countries, South Korea, Hong Kong, China from late August to mid-late September this year, with a cumulative global box office of 45 million US dollars. The film is expected to be introduced to mainland China, while Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia will be released on Amazon streaming media.

In Greenland, Gerard plays an ordinary man named John Garrity, who, like billions of other people on Earth, watches in horror as fragments of a comet hit the Earth, crushing countless cities and threatening human survival. John hears that there is a refuge in Greenland where his family can survive, so he must take his estranged wife Allison (Morena Baccarin) and young son Nathan (Roger Dale Floyd) on a dangerous journey to a safe haven before most people.
