French cinema owner smashes Mulan poster in hopes of helping cinemas revive

Disney's new film "Mulan" announced that it would cancel its theatrical release in some countries around the world and go directly to streaming media, which caused dissatisfaction among some cinema owners. Recently, a video posted by the Twitter user destinationcine went viral online, showing a cinema staff member holding up a baseball bat and smashing the horizontal poster of "Mulan" in the cinema.

Video appreciation:

Foreign media Deadline contacted the man and learned that he was Gerard Lemoine, the owner of Cinepal, an independent cinema in France. He said that the video received more attention than he thought, and revealed that he was frustrated when he heard that "Mulan" was directly released on streaming media instead of in theaters. He said that his cinema had been promoting the film for months, and they have always hoped that the release of this movie will help the revival of local cinemas.

French cinemas began to resume work in June. Lemoine said it was difficult to attract audiences to return. "For most of us, it is a struggle just to stay in business now." They had expected that some blockbusters would be released in the next period of time, but then they received the news that "Mulan" would be changed to a streaming premiere. They thought it was a sad thing for cinema practitioners and audiences who wanted to watch the film.

Lemoine is now counting on the theatrical release of Warner's "Tenet," which will be released in France on August 26. He said: "There is "Tenet" in late August, but it is not enough. The film companies have to understand: if they cancel the release of these movies or put them online, I can't hold on for too long. I have dedicated my life to showing movies. I don't want to die."
