Eli Roth, director of the live-action Borderlands adaptation, has responded to the comparisons between his upcoming film and Guardians of the Galaxy. In an interview with Total Film, Roth acknowledged the similarities between the two projects, explaining, "I was very careful not to make another Guardians of the Galaxy. (Audiences) will see this movie and recognize its uniqueness." He said he was aware that as both films were family-friendly science fiction films, comparisons between the two films were inevitable. He also said that his goal was to exceed the expectations of game adaptations: "I don't want the audience to think, 'That's a great movie adapted from a game.' I want them to say, 'That's a really fun science fiction movie.'" Eli Roth is a director with experience in thrillers and fantasy comedies, having previously directed 2018's "House of Two Cities." This comedy film adapted from the popular game series produced by Gearbox has a very strong cast, including Kevin Hart, Cate Balanchett and Jack Black, and is scheduled to be released on August 9, 2024. |
