OpenAI removes a voice similar to Scarlett Johansson's, who had rejected the dubbing invitation

According to foreign media Variety, OpenAI's voice chatbot has a voice called "Sky", which sounds very much like Scarlett Johansson's voice in the movie "Her". They have now terminated this voice.

OpenAI issued a statement saying: "We believe that AI voices should not deliberately imitate the voices of celebrities. Sky's voice is not an imitation of Scarlett Johansson, but the natural speaking voice of another professional actor. To protect privacy, we cannot disclose the name of the voice actor."

Scarlett Johansson revealed that she received an invitation from OpenAI to dub ChatGPT 4.0 last September, but she declined for personal reasons. Even two days before the press conference, Altman contacted her agent again to ask if she would reconsider.

Actress Scarlett Johansson released a statement saying she was shocked and angry that the company continued to use a voice that sounded very similar to hers, even though she turned down an offer to voice an AI character last year.

Her lawyers contacted OpenAI to ask that Sky’s voice, one of the new voices in the GPT-40 chatbot, be removed.

Johnson called for legislation to protect individuals from having their name, image or likeness stolen. "As we all grapple with deepfakes and the need to protect our own likeness, our own work, our own identity, I think these issues deserve absolute clarity," she said. "I look forward to having the issues addressed in a transparent way and having the appropriate legislation passed to help ensure that individuals' rights are protected."
