The China Mulan Cultural Research Center published an open letter demanding that Jia Ling and the crew apologize publicly.

Netizens said that in the show, "Hua Mulan" played by Jia Ling was afraid of death and dared not go to the front line, so she was deceived by her father to join the army. In the army, Mulan suffered a loss and was forced to go to the battlefield to become a general. After returning to her hometown, her deceased father left a letter, from which she learned that her father deceived her to join the army because a neighbor bully took a fancy to her. Such absurd plots have seriously subverted Hua Mulan's intelligent, filial, resolute and brave heroic image.

Although the program has been broadcast for more than ten days, Guo Yifang, a cultural and historical expert from Shangqiu City, Henan Province, still seems very angry when he mentions this matter. He said: "This farce is disgusting and infuriating. Its poor skills and vulgar content not only distort the image of Mulan, but also tarnish the national culture. It is extremely hateful. The story of the heroine Hua Mulan is not only well-known in China, but also widely known overseas. The patriotism, national integrity, fearlessness of power, great loyalty and filial piety, great benevolence and righteousness, great wisdom and courage embodied in Mulan are praised and admired by the world, and have inspired generations of Chinese people. The spoof of the Happy Comedian column is misleading young people into the wrong path, and it is even more shameful to future generations."

Song Chengshu, director of the China Mulan Cultural Research Center, believes that Hua Mulan is a microcosm of the Chinese national spirit, and the show's portrayal of her as a greedy, selfish, and silly girl seriously violates the spirit of vigorously promoting the fine traditional history and culture of the Chinese nation. This farce provides nothing but negative energy and misleads the masses, especially young people.

The Ballad of Mulan was selected into the middle school textbooks. Hua Mulan's spirit inspired thousands of Chinese people to defend the country, which is a moving poem.

On July 7, the China Mulan Culture Research Center published an open letter, demanding that the Dragon TV "Happy Comedian" program team and main creative staff publicly apologize to the society.
