The director of Shang-Chi talks about why he joined the MCU: I want to create a superhero for my son to look up to

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to enter a new era (Phase 4) after Avengers 4: Endgame. With the upcoming films such as Black Widow, Shang-Chi, and Eternals, some new superheroes will take center stage in the MCU. This will also usher in a new era for Marvel Studios, and Simu Liu, the lead actor in Shang-Chi, will also be one of Marvel's new leading actors. This is also the first superhero movie directed by Asian director Destin Daniel Cretton.

Recently, in an interview with foreign media Hollywoodreporter, the talented director talked about why he joined the MCU to shoot "Shang-Chi". Destin Daniel Cretton said: " When I was a child, there was no superhero that I could look up to. When I was a child, I was attracted to Spider-Man, mainly because he had a mask on his face, and I could imagine myself wearing this mask. I really want to give my son a superhero to look up to, and I feel very honored to be able to participate in telling this story. "

Shang-Chi is an important part of the future of the MCU, as it will introduce a new traditional Chinese superhero that will have a significant impact on future MCU movies, news of which has only appeared in the previous Iron Man movie.

Kevin Feige, CEO of Marvel Studios, also talked about why he filmed Shang-Chi. He said: "Every movie we make is risky. We only want to make movies that people think are risky. For us, it is very interesting to write the story of a Chinese-American hero. It will be very different and special. I hope that audiences around the world will respond to this movie the same way they respond to Captain America Steve Rogers, regardless of whether there is an American flag in the movie. Because Shang-Chi is an independent storyline that shows the spectacular scenes and adventures created by Marvel Studios."

Marvel's new Asian superhero film "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" is scheduled to be released in North America on February 12, 2021. Canadian-Chinese Simu Liu will play the protagonist "Shang-Chi", Tony Leung will play "Mandarin", and "Crazy Rich Asians" heroine Awkwafina will join.
