There have been rumors that there might be a sequel to the 2018 Tomb Raider film, and today the news has finally been confirmed, with Lara Croft returning to the big screen. According to Deadline, the sequel will be released on March 19, 2021, with Ben Wheatley as the director, and Alicia Vikander will still play the young Lara. Ben Wheatley is a British director, screenwriter, actor and producer who started out making short films. His major works include "House of Sin", "The Scream", "Skyscraper" and so on. Although the popularity of the Tomb Raider series of games, including the latest Tomb Raider: Shadow, has remained fairly stable, the screen adaptations of this work have not been so impressive. The 2001 version and its sequel, starring Angelina Jolie, impressed many fans with Jolie's stunning beauty and acting skills as the heroine Lara, but the film reviews were still not very impressive. The new Tomb Raider, released in 2018, grossed $275 million worldwide, with mixed reviews. There are few details about the sequel yet, except that it will begin filming early next year. |
