According to Variety, Lionsgate is developing a Monopoly movie and it will be produced by LuckyChap, the production company of Barbie actress Margot Robbie. The company was previously responsible for Birds of Prey, Barbie, and Sutterburn. In a statement about the new film, Lionsgate Films head Adam Fogelson said he was confident in LuckyChap's "clear vision" for the Monopoly IP and was excited about the possibility of the game becoming another blockbuster for the production company. As the owner of the Monopoly IP, Hasbro also owns the copyright to Barbie, so it is not difficult to understand why the company wanted Lionsgate and Margot Robbie to produce this movie. Hopefully, Monopoly will not follow the same path as another popular board game, Battleship, which was adapted into a movie. |
