Martin is still involved in this prequel, and is produced together with Jane Goldman, a British female screenwriter of Kick-Ass and Kingsman, who is also the main creator of this series. The story of the prequel to Game of Thrones is set 5,000 years before the original series.

The prequel to Game of Thrones tells the story of the fall of this world, from the golden age of heroes to the darkest hour. Only one thing is certain: from the most terrible secrets in the history of Westeros to the true origin of the White Walkers, from the mysteries of the East to the legend of the Stark family... The confirmed cast includes British actress Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive), Josh Whitehouse (Northern Soul), young "Dumbledore" Jamie Campbell Bower, Toby Regbo (Star Wars 8) and Denise Gough (Colette). Naomi Watts plays a socialite with a dark secret, and the prequel pilot is directed by SJ Clarkson, the director of Jessica Jones.
