Lionsgate announced on Monday (17th) that it has begun production on a prequel film to "The Hunger Games," adapted from the upcoming prequel novel by author Suzanne Collins. "As the home of The Hunger Games films, we can’t wait for Susannah’s next book to be published," Lionsgate chairman Joe Drake said in a statement on Monday. "We have been in communication with her and look forward to continuing to work closely with her on the film." Suzanne Collins' best-selling dystopian trilogy, The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay, has been published by Scholastic since 2008 and was later adapted into four hit movies starring Jennifer Lawrence. The Hunger Games is set in Panem, a country divided into 12 regions from which children are chosen by lottery to participate in a death contest known as the Hunger Games. The untitled prequel novel has been announced to be released on May 19, 2020, and will be set 64 years before the start of the current trilogy. The Hunger Games series of films has grossed nearly $3 billion worldwide, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, etc. The prequel film project is still in its early stages, with no confirmed cast, screenwriter, or director. |
