The official website of Sword Art Online's 10th anniversary is online. Kawahara Reki: I will continue to write novels

Speaking of the name "Sword Art Online", I believe most people are familiar with it, but you may not realize that this work has been 10 years old since the first volume of the novel was released on April 10, 2009! In order to commemorate this special day, Dengeki Bunko has specially launched the "SAO" 10th Anniversary Commemorative Webpage.

The author of the "Sword Art Online" series of novels, Reki Kawahara, also posted his thoughts on the tenth anniversary on the website.

“I once said, ‘My goal is to survive 10 years (as a novelist)!’ But when I finally reached the 10-year anniversary, I felt a huge sense of accomplishment but also a little bit of loss.

From the concept of SAO to its early version, and then to its later recognition, the journey was not smooth. Because of the pain and pressure I endured, I once thought I couldn't write anymore. However, thanks to the people who have supported me so far and the readers who love my work, I have finally succeeded as a writer for ten years.

I haven’t found my next goal yet, but I plan to keep writing for 15 years, or even 20 years, so thank you (readers) in advance.

Kawahara Reki"

In 2002, the author Kawahara Reki wrote a novel called "Sword Art Online" in order to submit it to the "Dengeki Game Novel Award" (now renamed "Dengeki Novel Award") of Dengeki Bunko, but was unable to participate because the number of pages exceeded the standard. Later, he serialized the manuscript of SAO on his personal website under the pen name "Kuri Fumio", which is the prototype of the WEB version of the work.

After the author's new work "Accel World" won an award, his editor-in-chief Kazuma Miki also read SAO, which was still on WordGear at the time, so Kazuma Miki proposed to compile this work into a book and publish it together. The library version is rewritten based on the content of the WEB version. The author supplemented the world view setting and plot, and corrected some inappropriate content.

By the way, the comic-adapted game "Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris" will also be available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One platforms in the near future.
