According to a recent report by US media CNET, security company Kaspersky conducted research on malware disguised as popular TV series in 2018. Recently publicized research results show that the torrents of "Game of Thrones" are the darkest and full of dangers. Kaspersky collected 31 of the most popular and pirated TV shows from last year — including "Stranger Things," "The Handmaid's Tale" and "Westworld" — and tracked them on torrent and piracy sites. For those 31 shows, Kaspersky found 126,340 malware-disguised TV episodes. Here are the highlights from Kaspersky’s report: Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and Arrow are the most malware-infested TV shows. Disguised Game of Thrones episodes accounted for nearly a fifth (17%) of all malware. The first and last episodes of each season of Game of Thrones are the most prone to malware, with the first episode of the entire series, "Winter is Coming," being one of the main sources of malware. American Horror Story caused the most damage, with each malicious file impersonating an episode of the show affecting an average of three users. The two most popular malware are “Not-a-virus:Downloader” and “Not-a-virus:AdWare”. Perhaps most incredible is the fact that Game of Thrones never got a new episode in 2018. But once Season 8 begins, there will surely be more malware impersonating it. |
