227 million! Captain Marvel breaks Marvel's mainland box office record

Friday, March 8th was International Women's Day. With the help of the opening of Marvel's first independent female superhero film "Captain Marvel", the mainland film market closed with 300 million yuan, ahead of last year.

Captain Marvel, which debuted in mainland cinemas for the first time, soared to the top, with a holiday bonus and a 53.21% overwhelming screening volume, creating a super strong first-day box office of 227 million (including 16.5 million for the midnight show). The film created the highest opening of a single-person superhero movie in the mainland market in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far.

The last MCU solo movie, Black Panther, was released in mainland China last year, with a first-day box office of 131 million yuan. Looking at the Marvel series of solo superhero movies, Captain Marvel's first-day performance is second only to Sony's Venom last year, which earned 239 million yuan (including 17.67 million yuan in the premiere).

On the eighth day of its release in China, Green Book earned 32.67 million yuan at the box office, with an attendance rate of 30%, the highest yesterday. It was second only to Captain Marvel yesterday. The cumulative box office of Green Book has easily exceeded 200 million yuan. This Oscar-winning film, which was introduced the fastest, is expected to become the best-selling Oscar-winning film in China in recent years.

Also released this week is the Japanese healing animation "Natsume's Book of Friends," which grossed another 17.98 million on Women's Day and a total of 37.34 million in two days.
