After the huge success of "Mission: Impossible 6", Christopher McQuarrie, the director and screenwriter of "Mission: Impossible 5" and "Mission: Impossible 6", will continue to write and direct the next two sequels, and they will be shot back-to-back.

According to Variety, "Mission: Impossible 6: Fallout" is the best-reviewed and highest-grossing film in the series so far, with a global box office of $790 million. In view of this, Paramount has decided to continue to use director Christopher McQuarrie, which also means that McQuarrie will be the director who has directed the most "Mission: Impossible" films in the series, reaching 4. Insiders expect McQuarrie to start filming sometime this year (2019). Before this, the "Mission: Impossible" series used different directors for each film.

The first sequel "Mission: Impossible 7" directed by McQuarrie is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2021, and the second sequel "Mission: Impossible 8" is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2022. As for why it was not released in 2020, it is because "Top Gun 2" starring Tom Cruise will be released on June 26, 2020, and Paramount does not want to affect the box office of the film.
