'Wonder Woman' Director Returns for 'Star Wars: Squadrons' Movie

Wonder Woman film director Patty Jenkins has confirmed that the previously shelved Star Wars: Rogue Squadrons movie, a Star Wars spinoff focusing on fighter pilots, is back in development.

Patty Jenkins shared the news in an interview with the Talking Pictures podcast. Patty Jenkins said that now that her schedule is free, she can at least start writing scripts again.

She said: "When I left Star Wars to direct Wonder Woman 3 and started working on it, we talked about, 'Maybe after Wonder Woman 3 I'll go back to Star Wars.' So we started negotiating a deal. Then Wonder Woman 3 was put on hold and Lucasfilm and I were like, 'Oh, we have to get this deal done.' We got it done right before the strike started, so now I'm owed a Star Wars script."

Jenkins continued: "They have a difficult question in front of them, which is, 'What is the first movie they're going to make?' Other directors are moving on to other projects, but I'm back on Rogue Squadron now. We'll see how it goes from there. We need to make sure both parties are very happy with the movie."

In short, Star Wars: Squadrons is still in the early stages of development, and not much has happened since we last heard about it in 2022. However, this is at least a positive sign that Disney still wants to move forward with the project in some form.

Disney is currently in a bit of a quiet period on the Star Wars front as it continues to roll out spinoff content for Disney+. Other movies in development include works featuring The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda, as well as an untitled film from Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waitati.
