Legendary Pictures officially announced today that "Godzilla" and "King Kong" will fight on the screen. The film, named "Godzilla vs. Kong", will be released in the United States in 2020 after "King Kong: Skull Island" and "Godzilla 2". These three films will also build a new monster movie universe. Previously, Legendary Pictures and its parent company Universal Pictures had disagreements over cooperation, and the former directly transferred the distribution rights of "Kong: Skull Island" to Warner. At the same time, Warner will also produce "Godzilla 2" with Legendary Pictures, so this new monster movie universe is basically built on the basis of several future movies of Warner Pictures. Although Legendary Pictures still maintains a cooperative relationship with Universal Pictures, and the latter will also participate in the production of "Kong: Skull Island", for Universal Pictures, paving the way for Warner Pictures' future monster movies through this King Kong prequel movie is not something worth celebrating. Legendary Pictures announced at last year's San Diego Comic-Con that they currently own the copyrights to Toho's monsters Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah, and these three monsters are also expected to appear in Godzilla 2. The sequel will continue to be directed by Gareth Edwards and is scheduled to be released in 2018. Movie fans once imagined the plot of King Kong fighting Godzilla in "King Kong" Kong: Skull Island will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the director of The Kings of Summer. Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Toby Kebbell and Corey Hawkins are the four main characters. Samuel L. Jackson, John C. Reilly and Tom Wilkinson are also expected to join. The film will start shooting on October 19 and is currently scheduled to be released in North America on March 10, 2017.
