Zach Cregger, director of the horror film Savage, is developing a Resident Evil reboot. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zach Craig will write and direct the reboot. Craig's adaptation of Capcom's classic biological horror game series has attracted many major distributors, including Netflix and Warner Bros. Four companies have bid for the distribution rights of this film. Craig, best known for the 2022 horror film Savage, about a woman who rents a home only to discover it hides a terrifying secret, has already finished filming his next film, Weapons, which sources say has been very well received by audiences. This will be the second reboot of the Resident Evil film series, following six films directed by Paul Anderson and starring his wife Milla Jovovich. Although not strictly based on the games, the films have grossed $1.2 billion worldwide. A reboot of "Welcome to Raccoon City" was released in 2021. Directed by Johannes Roberts, this reboot is more faithful to the video game, but it was not recognized by the media and the audience. The film has an IMDB score of 5.2 and a Rotten Tomatoes freshness of only 30%. As with Paul Anderson and the Welcome to Raccoon City movie, the new Resident Evil reboot continues to be produced by Constantin Films and Sony PlayStation Productions. Sony established PlayStation Productions in 2019 to oversee some of its game adaptations, including Uncharted, Gran Turismo, The Last of Us, and the Chariots of Fire series starring Tom Holland. |
