'Barbie' director to direct two 'Chronicles of Narnia' movies for Netflix

Barbie live-action director Greta Gerwig has reached an agreement with Netflix to write and direct two films based on C.S. Lewis's "The Chronicles of Narnia" novels.

After dressing up Barbie with Margot Robbie this summer to bring the world’s most famous doll to the big screen, Gerwig is ready to step into a completely different wardrobe and explore a world of fantasy and magic.

According to a recent New Yorker profile, Gerwig will direct at least two more Chronicles of Narnia movies, part of Netflix's long-term plan to bring the beloved Chronicles of Narnia series to audiences through multiple films and TV series.

Netflix announced a multi-year deal with C.S. Lewis Company in October 2018, subsequently hiring Coco screenwriter Matthew Aldrich as "creative architect" for all film and TV series based on C.S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia.

In addition to Aldridge, Mark Gordan, Douglas Gresham, and Vincent Sieber are currently attached to serve as executive producers on the films and showrunners on the upcoming Chronicles of Narnia series, although it is not yet clear which Chronicles of Narnia story Netflix will choose to adapt first.

The fantasy series has been adapted several times in the past, including an animated miniseries in 1979 and, most recently, a series of films directed by Andrew Adamson beginning in 2005, including The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
