Indiana Jones 5 may lose $200 million on opening flop

"Indiana Jones 5," the last Indiana Jones movie starring 80-year-old Harrison Ford, opened in North America with $60 million, only 60% of the $100 million of its predecessor, "Indiana Jones 4," in 2008.

The film opened at $130 million worldwide (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade opened at $250 million), but only $2.25 million in mainland China. The investment is said to be over $300 million, so Disney/Lucasfilm will lose $230 million this time.

The film received a CinemaScore of B+, which is not good news for the continued box office success. Last weekend, another new film, "The Transformation of Ji Mei", was even worse. The film produced by DreamWorks Animation opened with only $5.3 million at the box office, ranking sixth.
