So far, the American TV series "The Boys", adapted from the comic book of the same name, has aired four full seasons. Its description of American politics makes many viewers feel that it is satirizing real politics. In a recent interview with foreign media "Variety", producer Eric Kripke explained that the show does not really want to "reflect reality." It's just that reality has become so crazy that you mistakenly think it is an episode of "The Boys." Eric Kripke said: "The way the show reflects what's going on in the world actually comes from this understanding that we discovered very early in the production process, that this happens to be a TV show adapted from a comic book. We didn't design it to reflect reality, but we happened to be making a show about a violent dictator who appears as a celebrity. And then all of a sudden, the world changes to reflect the show, not just in the United States, but around the world. Suddenly, we find ourselves making one of the most popular shows on television." Over time, though, the coincidences became more and more purposeful, so Eric Kripke admitted that the team eventually changed course: "[The team] felt an obligation... 'Okay, let's make a show that's really relevant to the times, let's make it reflect reality, let's make it as satirical as possible.'" |
