Kang the Conqueror May Be Recast, Marvel Has a Backup Plan

Recent rumors have suggested that Marvel Studios may have a contingency plan to replace Jonathan Majors as Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to The Direct, Marvel's Jeff Sneider discussed Majors' arrest on suspicion of assault on The Hot Mic podcast. He revealed that Marvel Studios is looking for an actor similar to Damson Idris in the FX crime drama Snowfall to replace Majors, suggesting that Idris's role opposite Brad Pitt in Apple's untitled Formula 1 movie put him on Marvel Studios' radar.

"While there hasn't been any developments on Jonathan Majors' role, I've heard that Marvel might consider someone like Damson Idris to replace him if Jonathan Majors' Kang gets fired," Snyder said.

On March 26, Majors was arrested in New York City on suspicion of domestic violence against an unnamed 30-year-old woman. Majors has proclaimed his innocence through his agent, and his attorney claims that the accuser has retracted her initial statement. While no official announcement has been made, Marvel's Jeff Sneider previously claimed that Marvel Studios had discussed the issue with Majors' team. Sneider stated: "They have met or spoken with his agent to discuss possible options for the future."

The backlash against Majors has been swift, with the U.S. Army now canceling Majors' "Be What You Can" campaign and multiple filmmakers speaking out about his alleged "antisocial" behavior in the past. Additionally, a social media ad promoting the streaming of Ant-Man 3 did not feature Majors' Kang, instead putting Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly's hero at the forefront.
