Recently, David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, announced that Warner Bros. Pictures has once again won the film remake rights of Tolkien's works "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit". The contract includes several new films based on the series of novels, which will be developed by Warner's New Line label. Previously, Warner + New Line launched the famous Middle-earth IP trilogy "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" trilogy. This time, their contracted party is the Swedish game manufacturer Embracer Group. Last year, the company acquired various development rights of "The Lord of the Rings" IP from the Saul Zaentz Group, including movies, games, peripherals, theme parks, live performances, etc. Warner Bros. Pictures said in a statement: "Twenty years ago, New Line Studios brought the incredible stories, characters and world of The Lord of the Rings to the big screen. This is a landmark film series that has been welcomed by generations of fans. Although The Lord of the Rings trilogy has moving stories and details, it has not fully demonstrated the vast, complex and dazzling Middle-earth dreamed by Tolkien. Now we have the opportunity to invite fans to continue to delve deeper into the Middle-earth film. It is an honor for us. We are very happy to work with Embracer on this adventure." At present, the director of the new film of the "Lord of the Rings" series has not been determined. Director Peter Jackson issued a statement saying that he is closely following the latest developments and is looking forward to further discussions with Warner. "I look forward to having further conversations with them and listening to their future prospects for this series moving forward." |
