The Secret Level Warhammer series creators confirm story has nothing to do with Cavill live-action drama

The game IP themed animation series "Secret Levels" invested and produced by Amazon's streaming platform Prime Video is about to be broadcast, and the most anticipated episode may be the "Warhammer 40K" episode. And its story is an extension of the recently launched "Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2" - it is speculated that it will include the story of the protagonist Titus when he was a child.

Amazon actually owns the rights to the Warhammer 40K series, and has a live-action series in the works, led by actor Henry Cavill. When asked if the two works would intersect, executive producer Dave Wilson told GamesRadar+ that despite being produced by the same company, the two works will currently be relatively independent.

He explains: "We're very separate now. I would say that we've had a close relationship with Games Workshop for many years and I'm a huge Warhammer fan. 20 years ago, we made a 40K story at Blur Studios and that was my favourite and proudest time at Blur. I've been dying to get back to 40K for 20 years. But, you know, this series doesn't belong to us, or anyone in Hollywood, they belong to the creative workers in Nottingham who have kept this series going for 40 years (referring to Games Workshop, headquartered in Nottingham, UK)."

"Whatever Henry (Cavill) is doing, whatever plans we have, what we really want to do is to take the series to the next level as much as we can. If there is a way for us to support each other, that would be great. But the fact is that there are so many stories to tell in the Warhammer world that even if there are 10 people telling their own stories, it would be more than enough."

Wilson also said that the creative team of Warhammer 40,000 is also very cautious about what they ask for: "The people at Games Workshop are very sharp and very focused on their IP. This is the advantage of their success... They are cautious. They don't need help from Hollywood. They have already achieved success before we borrow what they have. So I think they want to make sure things can be done correctly, and they will spend as much time as possible to ensure this."

He also recalled the meeting between himself and Tim Miller, the creator of the "Secret Level" series, and GW 20 years ago, saying that he suffered a cultural shock when he came to the tabletop game industry as a Hollywood, and learned a lot. GW said at the time that it was successful enough and adapting a movie would do them more harm than good, and even if it succeeded, it would not bring more benefits.

The Secret Levels will begin airing on December 10, with more episodes to follow on the 17th. The Warhammer 40,000 series will be the first to air.
