According to foreign media The Hollywood Reporter, Moana 2, which was released on November 27, grossed $221 million in North America and $386 million worldwide in five days, higher than expected. Except for China, the film ranked first in the box office in every country and region around the world. Disney also announced that the film broke several box office records. Disney said Moana 2 had the highest five-day opening of all time (surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie's $205.6 million), the highest Thanksgiving opening and Thanksgiving weekend, the highest Thanksgiving opening, and the highest Black Friday opening of all time. The $386 million also made it the second-highest global opening of 2024, behind only Deadpool & Wolverine's $438 million opening. This is another work that Disney has revived this year. It is also the third Disney movie this year to open at more than $150 million, following "Deadpool and Wolverine" and "Inside Out 2". Last year, the box office performance of Disney movies was relatively mediocre, and no movie broke the $1 billion mark. This year, Disney already has two blockbusters that have box office exceeded $1 billion, namely "Deadpool and Wolverine" and "Inside Out 2". The final performance of "Moana 2" at the box office is still unclear, but at least it's off to a good start. |
