Skeb, a Japanese artist commissioning agency, recently announced on Twitter that it will ban any AI-generated works from being uploaded to the "Illustration" category, including works that are only partially created using AI software. Staff are personally screening submissions to check for traces of AI use and collecting creators' opinions on the issue. The company explained that the measure is to prevent dissatisfied customers and potential problems such as money laundering. Skeb recommends but does not require artists to submit their works as PSD files for easy inspection. Skeb will allow customers to download artwork as PSD and PNG files, and warns that illustrations that are not PSD files will be difficult to determine whether they contain AI-generated parts. In October, Skeb announced that it would introduce methods to make it harder for scrapers and bots to extract artwork posted on Skeb for AI programs to learn from. FANZA, DLsite, and Niconico also issued statements about their AI-generated art policies. Skeb has many users in Japan, and thousands of Japanese artists, including famous manga authors, animators and illustrators, use the site. |
