Iron Man selected for the National Film Registry

Every year, 25 films are selected for inclusion in the National Film Registry, which is archived by the Library of Congress. Reflecting the depth and breadth of American filmmaking, the selection always features blockbuster films designed to attract attention. This year's blockbuster is the first Marvel movie, "Iron Man," which made Marvel Studios a force to be reckoned with in American pop culture in 2008.

"Iron Man is the first film made independently by Marvel Studios," said Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, in a statement. "It is the first film for which we have sole creative responsibility and oversight, and it is a life-or-death moment for the studio. Our favorite films are the ones we watch over and over again, the ones we grew up with. For Iron Man to join that slate of films today, nearly 15 years after its release, tells us that it has stood the test of time and remains relevant to audiences around the world."

In addition to "Iron Man", other films nominated this year include "Carrie" (1976), "Hairspray" (1988), "The Little Mermaid" (1989), "When Harry Met Sally" (1989), etc.

Since 1989, the Library of Congress has selected 25 films to be archived each year. They do not have to be the best works, but they must be able to widely represent American culture, reflect the overall level of American films, and show the magnificent historical process of the United States. The Library of Congress has currently preserved 550 feature films, documentaries, experimental films, etc. from different eras and with different themes, which can be called a large collection of excellent American films over the past century.
