Analysts predict that Cameron's upcoming "Avatar 2: The Path of Water" will dominate the domestic box office, but not enough to surpass Tom Cruise's "Top Gun 2." According to Variety, analysis firm Cinelytic predicts that Avatar 2 will earn about $650 million in domestic theaters and home media in the United States. In comparison, Avatar 1 grossed $772 million domestically, while Top Gun 2 has grossed more than $700 million domestically. One of the reasons why the sequels of Avatar are not as successful as Top Gun is that the film is a 3D version, which is not as attractive as the 2009 version. Another reason is that the sequels of Top Gun rely heavily on the star power of actor Tom Cruise, which is not available in Waterloo. There are no forecast reports on the global box office of this film. Due to multiple re-releases, Avatar has grossed a total of $2.8 billion. "Avatar 2: The Path of Water" will be released in the United States on December 16. |
