Sex comedy American Pie reboot in production

A new American Pie movie is in the works, with writer Sujata Day bringing a "fresh take" to the long-running comedy franchise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new American Pie movie is based on an original idea by Day, an actress, model and screenwriter who is perhaps best known for her roles as Sarah on the comedy series Insecure and CeeCee on the web series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl.

The original American Pie was released in 1999, starring Jason Biggs as Jim, a goofy high school senior who wants to lose his virginity before graduation. Since then, the series has spawned multiple sequels, starring many of the original cast members, including Biggs, Alyson Hannigan and Sean William Scott.
